KNOW YOUR "WORTH"

Earlier this summer, Worth Collection liquidated its inventory online and shut down operations. As a former agent for the W by Worth line and an admirer of the higher-end Worth New York, we’ve always been fans of the quality, construction, and styling vis-à-vis our working women client base. Confession: we snagged some beautiful pieces for research purposes as we continually work to improve our offering.

If you’re in the market for some fabulous pieces at great values, you can find them by searching the online clearance marketplaces (or hit our website here for the very limited selection). But you should know your Worth before you buy. Here are a few insights before you go shopping:

Worth New York is the luxury brand. W by Worth is the more affordable contemporary brand, in some cases priced 50% or more below its higher-end sister line. Worth Collection is the company that owned both brands.

Sizing can vary big time. The size 00 scoop neck silk tank from Worth New York fit our dress model pretty close to the way a Joseph Ribkoff size 4 did.

A pair of gorgeous Leighton linen-blend, lined trousers in size 6 from Worth New York fit more like a Joseph Ribkoff size 10.

Some might call this vanity sizing. We didn’t notice it across all Worth New York items. It’s possible you may need to size down by 1 or 2 sizes from some of the brands you have found with us such as Joseph Ribkoff or Nora Gardner.

Purchases from online marketplaces are often final sale. If buying from an online marketplace and are unsure of sizing, ask for key garment measurements first, and be sure to have a good tailor available if you want to capture the great value in those bargains.

The sizing disparity is not as evident in the W by Worth line. Sizing in this line seems more on par with other brands you have known us for over time.

Though both are well made, fabrications are more luxurious from Worth New York than from W by Worth. For example, this Worth New York open front jacket is lined in luxurious silk whereas a W by Worth version might use a polyester lining. High-end attention to detail is also more evident with the Worth New York line. Note the fancy flatlock edging detail in the jacket above and the fine sewing of the lining.

When shopping the marketplaces for values, pay attention to which Worth brand you’re buying. If the brand is simply listed as “Worth”, ask the seller to clarify before making your purchase. It may matter in both sizing and the value you get.

You can find a few items on our site at 70%+ off original retail prices. We’ll be adding a few more, so check back. There’s also quite a bit of new-with-tags merchandise from both lines popping up on marketplaces such as Poshmark. We hope you get your money’s worth!
